The Burbs aren’t the first family to move to Pleasantview seeking a safe town and fresh air. They wanted to be closer to Jennifer’s family… they weren’t expecting to be this close! Finding space for Daniel in their new house has drained their funds, but family is more important than anything in the world isn’t it?

He had nowhere else to go, what was she supposed to do? When she’s not providing for her family and buying modern furniture, Jennifer is kicking a soccer ball around.

John Burb

John was born to be a dorky dad. Bad jokes, an even worse sweater, and dad jeans. He’s, rightfully, furious with Daniel. But the guy really didn’t have anywhere else to go, and after talking it out with Jennifer they both agreed there weren’t many other options. John is a devoted husband who keeps the house running while Jennifer works, they make a great team. The only thing he loves anywhere near as much as her and Lucy is the huge garden that convinced him to move to Pleasantview.

Lucy Burb

Lucy wants to be just like her big cousin Angela when she grows up, hence the green! She’s thrilled to be living closer to her family, and other kids. It seemed like only grown-ups lived in Downtown. She doesn’t get why her dad and uncle Daniel have to argue so much though, Uncle Daniel is the only person who cleans up as much as her! So far she’s had her parents’ undivided attention, and it’s helped her grow into a playful, happy child. But that might change with her uncle Daniel moving in and the extra bedroom space this place has.

 

Daniel Pleasant

Daniel’s gone from the top of the world to a social pariah. Losing his family has taught him the value of it sure, and he wants to focus on his relationship with Angela and Lilith. But that’s both very risky and terrifying considering how mad they are at him. He’s getting old, he’s a pretty big name in sports, so why not just live the life his younger self always wanted? It’s easier to run from your mistakes.

 

Goth Family Bios

 

The Goths are the only celebrities in Pleasantview, unless you count the time Mary-Sue’s family appeared in her tv ad campaign. Mortimer Goth is known throughout Sim Nation for his work on the elixir of life, and the mystery of Bella Goth’s dissapearance gripped the nation to the point that ten False Bella Sightings were once reported in a single day. (Unfortunately those ten all originated from Strangetown, and everybody knows nobody in that town is in their right mind.) They have a long history, and a lot of secrets in said history. Sim Station Broadcasting once likened the family to a cult, and between the supernatural coincidences that surround them and their strange taste in decor and fashion, it’s not hard to see why. But is this view founded on prejudice and misunderstanding, rather than facts?

 

Mortimer Goth

Personality: Cancer, 4/6/4/7/4, Nature Hobby

Aspiration/Secondary: Knowledge/Family

“That poor old Mortimer Goth” Sims shake their heads “Being taken advantage of like that by a gold-digger after losing Bella. She ought to be ashamed of herself!” as if an old man couldn’t possibly have his own motives. Dina Caliente marries Michael Bachelor and he dies, Dina Caliente moves into town and Bella disappears from the house just next door to theirs. Coincidence? Mortimer is a MAD scientist not a senile scientist, and if letting Dina think she’s the one leading this relationship gets him answers then that’s exactly what he’ll let her believe. Knowledge sims never give up looking for answers, and family sims never give up on family. But maybe Mortimer is so convinced by his own public image, that he's searching for answers in everyone but the one person he should be asking: himself.

 

Don Goth (Lothario for a day)

Personality: Leo, 1/7/8/5/4, Fitness

Now this… this is the life. A mansion, an inheritance big enough to build another mansion on top of it, and Cassandra. Cassandra who… honestly deserves better than him and he knows it. He’s pretty sure she knows it too, but maybe it’s best not to ask why she’s with him and assume it was his good looks that won her over. Asking questions is against the Goth Rules. (There’s a lot of them, and it’s very hard to get used to being on this side of that black fence.) Mortimer probably keeps giving him weird looks because he still thinks Don knows something about Bella’s disappearance, which he doesn’t. For once in his life, Don Lothario (Goth, it’s Goth now Don) is innocent. One moment she was there, the next he was being woken up by a police officer and she was gone.

 

Cassandra Goth

Personality: Virgo, 7/2/5/7/4, Tinkering Hobby

Cassandra is the quiet type, nobody ever knows quite what she’s thinking… not even her own father. He has no idea that she’s doing her own investigation into her mother’s disappearance. The saying goes keep your friends close and your enemies closer, and Cassandra wants the last person to see her mother alive as close as she can possibly get him. Sure she shouldn’t use a marriage as a tactic, but nobody except Mary-Sue and Darren has ever paid her more attention than weird looks so she’s not exactly expecting to need to save the ‘honor’ of her hand. Furthermore, it’s not like he’s telling her the truth about all the women he’s woohooing with. She DOES know about that thank you very much and it’s going to come in handy if she ever needs to get him out of her life. It’s not that she doesn’t have self-confidence, it’s that she doesn’t have great expectations from her own romantic life. It's expendable, easy to weaponize.

Alexander Goth

Personality: Cancer, 4/6/4/7/4, Nature Hobby

Alexander is the only person in this house not obsessed with finding Bella Goth, but he might just be the only person who can fill in the gaps in the story. His father and sister are missing out on so much of their lives obsessing over Bella, and Alexander’s childhood is just one of those things they’re missing. Maybe if Mortimer had time for him he’d realise how much they have in common. Alexander has had to grow up quickly, and has turned to positive affirmation for intelligence to fill the gap where his family have failed to pay him attention. Like most Goths he focuses his research in one specific area, butterflies.

 

Broke Family Bios

 

The Brokes are essentially invisible to most of Pleasantview, until they get in someone’s way. With a view from their trailer of the Pleasantview Land Development Project’s newly built up commercial district, sprawling ever outward as if trying to envelop them, the Brokes are all too aware that right now just existing puts them in people’s way. But who has the time to worry about that when you’re a new single mother with more immediate concerns?

 

Brandi Broke

Personality: Aries, 3/6/4/6/6, Arts and Crafts

Brandi is one of the kindest people around. She can be a bit impulsive and act without thinking, that’s just one reason she married and settled down so young. She did love Skip though and is a devoted mother who has settled into a more responsible role. Sometimes she wishes she could get out of the house more but she honestly prefers looking after Beau and Dustin to the nights out Dina and Nina constantly try to badger her into coming on. She wants better for her children and has put Skip’s life insurance aside for their college funds, but she wishes Dustin wasn’t so… loud about his ambitions. She doesn’t want him to get in any trouble for it.

 

Dustin Broke

Alright, first of all, you’d be ‘angsty’ too if you were living in a suburb like Pleasantview full of upper middle-class and flat-out Rich people who constantly look down on you for how much money you have. Second of all,  Lilith put graffiti on the water tower with him and SHE didn’t get charged because she’s a Pleasant and her mum Knows People. If Dustin acts out it’s because he hates feeling so powerless, knowing the trailer he’s spent his entire life in could be sold away by some goofball he’s never met with the right simoleons. He's determined to become head of SCIA so nobody can make him feel small ever again, but he doesn’t want to become One Of Them either. He plans to change the corrupt system from the inside out. He takes after Brandi more than either of them realise, the only thing that divides them is that he’s pre-occupied with money while Brandi doesn’t mind as long as her family can be happy.

 

Beau Broke

Personality: Gemini, 6/7/4/3/5, Music + Dance Hobby

Beau is young but already seems a little different to the rest of his family. He’s far more serious and neat, never making the messes that Dustin did as a toddler, but he still retains the kindness that Brandi and Dustin (To those he trusts) are known for. He’s something of a musical prodigy, but please Nina Brandi is begging you not to buy him a recorder for his birthday.

 

Caliente Family Bios

 

People don’t trust the Caliente sisters because the sisters don’t trust them. But that’s just the attitude you have to develop when you grow up fairly poor, hiding alien heritage from the world and your ambitions to do better for yourself from your easily insulted parents. Dina wants to earn enough money that she’ll never have to stress again, and Nina craves a life that she can look back on and say “that was fun” regardless of how much money it costs her to have fun. But their differences never tear them apart - they both know they probably couldn’t survive facing the world alone. Dina helps her sister find something to do when the bars are closed and her lovers are busy, and Nina helps Dina relax.

 

Dina Caliente

Personality: Sagittarius, 2/8/1/8/6, Nature Hobby

Somewhere between rounding up Nina when she broke her curfew and breaking her own curfew, Dina met a young Jessica Peterson and the two of them became friends for life. The plan was always simple: Marry a rich guy, run off with his money together. But then Dina met Michael and… well… she knew she’d fallen in love with her ‘mark’ when his bank account turned out to be 99% support from his sister and she realised she didn’t care. But since the world has decided she doesn’t get her happy ending, the least she can do is use Jessica’s old plan to provide for her and Nina. It’s not like Jessica calls anymore, which hurts more than Michael’s death if she’s being honest. Dina doesn’t make friends lightly, especially not ones she plans to run off with.

 

Nina Caliente

Personality: Scorpio, 8/2/9/2/4, Sports Hobby

Nina is a firm believer in the age old philosophy that Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. It takes her mind off of her lack of money. Some people accuse her of being abrasive and you know what, maybe it’s true but at least it keeps llama-spitters away from her and Dina. Apart from Dina and, (obviously) Brandi though the only other person Nina trusts is Don. They were practically attached at the hip growing up, they’re like best friends with a lot of benefits. They do disagree though, a lot. Nina’s not in the business of lying to people about her dislike of monogamy. Don lies. A lot. But hey, he’s the only person who will play catch with her since she always aims for the eyes.

 

Dreamer Family Bios

 

Rules are lax in the Dreamer family, Darren has never quite recovered from losing Darleen and he was already a firm believer in letting kids be kids anyway, so he and Dirk have an understanding that they both just do whatever they need to do to make it through the days. They’re quite removed from the suburban scandals, far too busy struggling to pay the bills. Dirk is somewhat more involved because of Angela and Lilith, but Darren believes strongly in Live And Let Live. When it comes to the Land Development, they’re firmly against. Can they come together and form a house that does more than ‘get by’ or will they maintain their awkward distance?

 

Darren Dreamer

Still recovering from the depression Darleen’s death threw him into, Darren seizes any opportunity for meaning or emotion in his life. He thought he could fix everything with Cassandra as his fresh, new love, but time has shown him that his fixation was… not the healthiest. Now he’s turning his lifelong passion for art into a career, hoping it will give him a new purpose and take him back to the days when he was a carefree young artist and, above all else, happy. He doesn’t much care for money, and is thoroughly disgusted with ‘normal’ careers, the daily grind is just one more way to control you. As a friend to Cassandra he’s dependable, and the only politician he trusts to listen to him is Mary-Sue. As a father he prefers to be more of a friend than an authority figure, he wants Dirk to enjoy his youth! But Dirk knows that if he ever needs anything he can rely on Darren… he does know, right?

 

Dirk Dreamer

Personality: Virgo, 6/3/6/4/6, Tinkering

Dirk’s built his teenage years on being the guy someone else can lean on. He avoids processing his mother’s death from fear that he’ll end up as depressed as his father was, and has kept himself distracted by helping or entertaining other people. He avoids most things for fear of what the results could be, actually. Though he may be an expert at avoidance and anxiety, he wants better for other people than that. It’s why he helps Dustin paper the school with flyers to protest the Land Development, why he’s always ready with a corny joke that Lilith somehow finds funny, why he and Angela see each other grocery shopping because nobody else in their houses remembered to buy food and nod with mutual understanding. Still, sometimes the pressure of being a friend to lean on, a sympathetic boyfriend, and the only Dreamer who remembers to put the bills in the mail gets to him.
