Current Round: Round One
Current Hood: Bluewater Village

An ongoing 'soap opera' spanning all seven premade neighborhoods, a ridiculous number of sims, and an even more ridiculous number of plots. Suburban family drama, retro throwbacks, life in the city, rural mysteries where everybody knows everybody's secrets, supernatural and cosmic drama, Dinner With The Four Horsemen, Family Feud: Shakespeare Edition, it's all here. A little serious, a little not so serious.

What’s a sim to do when they’ve climbed the class ladder up to the sophisticated hills of Bluewater Village, and settled themselves firmly on a border between the upper crust and the wannabes? Scratch and claw your way over that border and bury the dead body of your wannabe past in the back garden, obviously. When they’re not bringing home the money and buying as much pretentious llamadung as they can for the house, Checo and Lisa are often found focusing their attention on Tessa. She’s the next generation after all, set to build on the foundation they lay. So of course she needs admission to private school.

Lisa Ramirez
Personality: Capricorn, 7/2/2/6/8, Tinkering Hobby
Aspiration/Secondary: Knowledge/Fortune
LTW: Become Chief of Staff
Degree: Biology
It’s not that Lisa doesn’t like the furniture shop, it has funded her exquisite taste in decor with almost minimal effort, but… she didn’t get that biology degree for kicks, and she doesn’t exactly live for working the shop floor while Checo restocks and fumbles with the cash register. Why does she have to sell to the customers? She’s the one who gets nervous around people. Now that she’s needed less around the shop and home, she’s excited to get her career off the ground. She only hopes that her role in the shop becomes even more obsolete when Tessa grows up to take her place on the team. Checo will be fine, it’s not like he ever really has time for her these days…

Checo Ramirez
Personality: Aquarius, 3/6/5/4/6, Arts Hobby
Aspiration/Secondary: Fortune/Family
LTW: Become Business Tycoon
Degree: Economics
Checo is obsessed with the furniture store, and still that’s an improvement over how conjoined he used to be with the damn place. Since Tessa was born she’s been his number one concern. A loving father and a dutiful mentor, Checo is grateful to have such an enthusiastic heir to his foundations. Personally though, he’s sensitive about his place in society, self-conscious about being ‘self-made’, and self-critical to a fault. If he’s not advancing he’s not happy. His fixation on his business, money, and how people look at him has slowly been driving a wedge between him and Lisa.

Tessa Ramirez
Personality: Aries, 5/7/5/4/4, Music Hobby
A musical and business prodigy in the making, Tessa is a little… too aware of her potential. Her parents’ big aspirations, their praise, the tutoring they paid for, as well as the perks and pitfalls of being an only child, have matured her quickly. She’s smart, capable, and has somehow managed to give off the aura of a successful CEO before graduating elementary school. Children are exhausting. At least her dad adores her. She knows kids aren't supposed to have a favourite parent, but she has a complex ranking of her parents complete with charts. Checo has been number 1 since the day she started keeping it.

Alexandra Teatherton
Personality: Gemini, 4 / 7 / 7 / 3 / 4, Fitness Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Popularity / Knowledge (Wants to EXPLORE!)
LTW: Be The Best Pirate Ever Damnit
Degree: History

Alex couldn’t take living a lie anymore, and it all came out a little… explosively. Now she’s living the life she always dreamed of, and her dearest value is that these days she’s always authentic and honest. (Honest to a fault of rudeness some, who don’t know her intentions, would say.) She’s never felt so free. The seas are her backyard, she’s revitalizing Bluewater Village’s legendary old pirate scene, and on top of all that she might just ‘get the girl’. Perfect, right?

So why does she flinch when the telephone rings?

Bluewater Village
Population: 9 Families
Career Focus: Business Owners, Adventurer, Thriving Bohemian Interest.
Seasons: Autumn/Winter/Spring/Summer

Your classic seaside town, Bluewater Village lures you in with its beach and swallows you whole in its independent tea rooms, arcades, old fashioned sweet stores, gift shops, clubs, and an ever growing variety of other shops. Most people who actually live in town own their own business, or live above it. It isn’t the kind of town you commute out of, not when there’s only one road (country lane) out of town that’s already choking with traffic.

Like most seaside towns it has an extremely popular railway connection. The bridge just past Bluewater Village’s railway station, passing close to the sheer cliff-face with a view of the water and lighthouse, was voted one of Sim Nation’s most beautiful bridges in Build Mode Monthly.

However, beneath the veneer of tourism, Bluewater Village has a muddy history. The numerous sharp rocks standing vigil over the beach, as well as the intimidating cliffs, meant it was never going to be suitable as a large port. For some smaller vessels, however, with an experienced crew who knew the water and the seas like the back of their hands, who were accustomed to sudden maneuvers… it was a haven. The pirate ships alone could navigate in and out of the bay with ease. Though today it tries to hide its history beneath ice-cream parlors, everybody knows Bluewater Village used to be a hub for pirates. Though Bluewater is remembered today for the work of the Landgraab family and its rich community of independent businesses, local legends insist that pirates still lurk in the caves around the cliffs. Or, if not pirates, then surely their ghosts.

Pirate activity, thought to be on the decline, has spiked again recently. Belladonna Cove, always quick to undermine the hub of independent, family-run businesses and promote big chains (Or so Bluewater locals say…) has been pointing the blame at the town. Bluewater Village finds itself caught between its past and its present of legitimate business.

Losing your parents in a tragic accident and moving in with your mysterious, rich aunt, who lives beside a graveyard, sounds like the start of a great gothic novel. The graveyard is haunted and your aunt is hiding a secret sounds like a great middle for a gothic novel. Ophelia’s just grateful there’s no attic to find anything in, and she hopes she’ll be gone long before the tragic gothic ending catches up to the house. As for how Olive feels about her, who knows. Olive’s motives have always been a mystery.

Olive Specter
Personality: Scorpio, 10/5/5/3/2, Science Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Knowledge / pleasure
LTW: Become a Prestidigitator (lmao no)
Degree: Several. Some genuine.

“What changed you?” “I met someone” is the oldest cliche in the book. But while standing beside her first kill (entirely accidental) and watching the silent hooded figure, something did change in Olive. That first time there was no acknowledgment, the second time she was greeted with a shaking of that hood. And the third time… “Got a taste for it, huh?”

“Just curious about you,” She’d said with a shrug.

“Well isn’t that a coincidence,” Said Death, Destroyer Of Worlds, The Oldest One, Lord Of All That Is Mortal, Master Of The Eternal Burning Fires Of Damnation. “Same”

Life has been nothing but ever-growing power since that day. There’s something intoxicating about nobody else knowing you’re the most dangerous person in the room. But it’s lonely at the top of the food chain, especially when you have to go through so much effort to see your lover. It’s because of that loneliness that Olive would like to get closer to Ophelia.

Ophelia Nigmos
Personality: Virgo, 4/6/5/4/6, Music Hobby
Aspiration: Family
LTW: Become Celebrity Chef
Ophelia hasn’t been able or even allowed to cope with her parents’ deaths. Strangetown doesn’t exactly have good therapists available and Aunt Olive isn’t good with emotions. So her anxiety has gone unchecked and she’s almost constantly worrying. Her hobbies include monitoring the air quality and scrubbing down kitchen surfaces until she’s sure they’ve been stripped of germs. If anybody ever needs a wipe, Ophelia or Ripp or Johnny usually carry at least one pack each. The fear that she might lose someone else in a preventable accident is overwhelming. So, if she hasn’t paid much attention to the graveyard it’s because it’s one of a million things that also scare her. It’s hard to know your gut is telling you to get the fuck out when it feels like it’s telling you that all the time.

The Kim Family were probably the last remaining claim to fame Strangetown had. They just can’t understand why their ratings dropped off! Surely it was because when real honest to watcher aliens started showing up, their show just seemed dated or tacky next to the real thing. It’s definitely not because their production crew were still using cardboard sets, flickering film-rolls for backdrops, and a camera handed down from the 60s, in an age of technology and innovation. They had been hoping for a move to the city, like any self-respecting washed up tv star. Finding that too pricey for their new salaries, they’ve remained in what’s left of the once expansive Kim Family sets that drew people into Strangetown to gawk at. (The non cardboard one, the actual family home.) They’ve also been obliged to keep the pets, introduced in the final season as a desperate ratings gimmick.

Robert Kim
Personality: Gemini, 4 / 7 / 7 / 3 / 4, Sports Hobby
Aspiration/Secondary: Fortune / Popularity
LTW: Become The Law
Degree: Political Science
Robert bumbled into showbiz. He showed up to the wrong building for his interview and suddenly an eccentric dude was telling him he had the perfect face for his ‘next big project’. But hey, show business sounded fun, and when he met his co-star Cynthia he knew he had to stay. An on-set romance quickly became an off-set romance and, well, it’s never been easier for a show to incorporate a marriage and pregnancy into the story. That unexpected bonus let their show run twice as long as it really should have. Now it’s finally done though, he’s looking forward to pursuing his original dreams of Law.

Cynthia Kim
Personality: Aries, 4/7/6/4/4, Music and Dance Hobby
Aspiration/Secondary: Popularity / Pleasure
LTW: Have 20 Best Friends
Degree: Drama
Cynthia always knew she was destined for the stage. Now her career is basically over she’s determined not to remain out of work. That means a regular job, but she misses the performance, the adrenaline, the drama, the days when the robot maid broke down and everyone got the same feeling a class does when there’s a substitute teacher. She clawed her way into drama, not waltzing in like Robert did. It was her life. It consumed her. In fact, don’t tell Robert, but at first their relationship was a bit of a publicity stunt. Her hobbies include drinking wine, mocking other people to escape the cold feeling that her own life has already reached it’s peak, and generally doing her best imitation of an audition tape for celebrity big brother.

Justin Kim
Personality: Aries, 4/7/6/4/4, Fitness Hobby
Justin was born into showbiz. From the moment Cynthia knew she was pregnant, he was on TV. Now it’s gone he’s not sure how he’s supposed to live without it… or how normal people in general function. All he knows for sure is he’s going to get back on TV… some day.

Gabby is just glad she didn't lose the Kims in the transition.

Cheech is glad the tv crews and those stupid, ugly people with the treats on a stick are gone. Nobody tells this cat what to do.

The Smiths are your average Sim Nation family. Your totally normal. Average. Sim Nation. Family. And if you say otherwise you can just ask Doctor Curious, Doctor Curious, Doctor Curious, and Nurse Smith (nee Curious) who totally do not have a conflict of interest. Jill Smith would like you to know your face is a conflict of interest. (Off the record… when PT9 settled on Earth, he detonated his escape shuttle in a remote location, buried the wreckage, and stumbled his way to Strangetown, the only landmark well known to aliens. On a rusting magazine rack of The Strangetown Motel he found an old, worn, and faded Better Homes And Gardens magazine. He’s done his best to model his home after this and other early cherished relics of Strangetown.)

Pollination Technician #9 Mr Smith
Personality: Pisces, 7/4/2/7/5, Film and Literature Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Family / Knowledge
LTW: Graduate 3 Children From College ( :/ )
Degree: Pollination
Despite his appearance, PT9 might have the most normal, boring interests of any sim in Strangetown. This contradiction only serves to make him all the odder. He is a loving father and husband who just wants to fit in, be left alone, and not gawked at. He devotes the free time of his retirement to childcare, the best grocery store deals, lawn maintenance, and the occasional sewing project. He worries a lot about his… situation making life hard or strange for his family, and feels incredibly guilty about potentially taking a normal life away from them. He is also very ashamed that he wasn’t around when his eldest children needed him, and is trying to make up for that somehow. He tries to give his family a lifestyle he imagines to be the picture of idyllic, everyday family life, straight from the yellowed pages of retro magazines, to make up for the things he fears he cannot give them. Normal, Totally Not An Alien Dad included.

Jenny Smith
Personality: Taurus, 5/4/4/3/9, Arts and Crafts hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Family / Knowledge
LTW: Graduate 3 Children From College (SERIOUSLY?!?!)
Degree: Biology
Jenny likes green. She really likes green. She also loves biology, cooking, and her family, but not in that order. Just like any Curious she was raised surrounded by science and all sorts of high-tech gadgets, and she excelled in school. In fact, she was accepted to a serious medical school whilst her brothers went on to develop mad scientist style projects in college. Unlike her brothers however, she prefers science to be one part of her life rather than all of it. She takes a greater interest in biology than they do, because it's a field of science where she can help people directly. Whether at work or at home, Jenny constantly tries her best and will put anyone ahead of herself. She looks out for anybody in the community who needs her help. All of this keeps her very busy, but with such a stable, loving family who will do anything for each other, she has the support to get it all done.

Johnny Smith
Personality: Gemini, 3/7/5/4/6, Music and Dance Hobby
Aspiration: Popularity
LTW: Become Captain Hero
Johnny dreams of one day being a hero and saving other sims. That’ll prove the anti-alien llamaspitters wrong, aliens AREN’T evil. Let’s see them hate him when he takes up the mantle of Captain Hero! He’ll change everyone’s minds. He’s been bullied himself and seen his friends suffer without anything to help them but each other. He wants to help other people so that nobody else is as sad as they’ve been. Until that day, he busies himself reading comics, leaving his action figures all over his room, trying to convince his uncles to find some toxic waste or a radioactive spider, asking his dad if he’s SURE aliens don’t have superpowers, and bickering with Ripp and Ophelia about who the best superhero is. It might sound silly, but he’s taking the hypothetical responsibility very seriously.

Jill Smith
Personality: Virgo, 7 / 3 / 4 / 6 / 5, Film and Literature Hobby
While Johnny takes after their mom: nice but very serious about his plans and goals in life, Jill takes after their father. Nice and playful, chilled out about life as long as she enjoys it. She does have a dream of working in oceanography, but she’s also happy as long as she’s having fun. As the feistiest member of the family she also gets into more trouble than Johnny ever did. Though her intentions are usually good, her methods of teaching anybody who isn’t being nice a lesson leave… a little to be desired.

Jessica was half-out of her stage makeup, Matthew was half into his, and they walked into each other because they were running on caffeine, rehearsals, and finals week. Fate intervened and a coffee date soon followed where it came out that drama wasn’t exactly related to their ideal career. Who could have guessed? Though they’re not exactly thrilled to be assigned to an R&D focused base in the middle of nowhere, the Picasos are grateful for the house and job. They’re trying to look at it as an extended honeymoon.

Jessica Picaso
Personality: Aries, 4/4/5/5/7, Nature Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Family / Fortune
LTW: Reach Golden Anniversary
Degree: Drama
Jessica likes animals and plants and the desert is lacking both. But it’s okay, really! She’s fine! After all, this is what she’s always wanted to do. She gets to serve under General Buzz who just saved Sim Nation and probably the entire world from destruction. Okay so maybe the Strangetown Base is a shadow of it’s former-self now and nothing like how she always imagined it, but she’s not going to let that keep her down. You can’t give up on a dream. You wait for the dream to play out, because surely everything will fall into place soon. For now she’s got a loving husband and a roof over her head, that should be enough.

Matthew Picaso
Personality: Aquarius, 1/6/7/6/5, Arts and Crafts Hobby
Aspiration/Secondary: Popularity / Family
LTW: Become Hall of Famer
Degree: Drama
Drama started as the first major Matthew saw on the list, but after a while he kind of started to like the costumes, painting the sets, and messing about with make-up. There’s no room for any of that on the base. General Buzz is weirdly insecure about anything that seems ‘un-masculine’. Worse than that though, the base is R&D focused and very into science. Matthew doesn’t care for it at all. Lately he’s been watching the sports games the base puts on for entertainment with slight envy… no. This is the beginning of everything he and Jessica have worked for, and she seems so happy here. There’s no way he could get cold feet here.

simhealing: (Default)

If you’re looking for dysfunctional you came to the right place. Toxic masculinity? Welcome to the origin of the word. Controlling parent running the place like a boot camp? You have very concerning tastes. Why are you looking for this? General Buzz was never a good father, but at least before Lyla’s death he was more of a neglectful father than anything. Now he’s had to be more ‘hands on’ the Grunt boys’ only parent is emotionally neglectful and a bully. With Ripp wishing to be ignored rather than deal with their everyday interactions, Buck creeping around on tiptoes to avoid accidentally angering someone, and Tank desperate enough for his father’s approval to do anything, anybody coming out of this childhood well adjusted will be a challenge.

General Buzz Grunt
Personality: Leo, 6/7/10/0/2, Sports Hobby
Aspiration: Popularity
LTW: Become The Law
Degree: Political Science
General Buzz believes in those corny tv advertisements that claim being in his line of work is “belonging”. He also believes in traditional values, violence as a resolution, a well stocked fallout shelter, and moth-man. (Though he thinks he’s an alien spy.) He’s paranoid to the point of parody about an ‘alien menace’ and keeps expecting PT-9 to creep into his room at night with a knife. Most of Strangetown would agree that would be justified but don’t tell him that, he likes to think of himself as the community leader of the town. And, to be fair, it’s incredibly hard to tell someone they’re not the leader when they have a tank and you don’t. He’s almost not aware of how he’s making his boys feel. He thinks he’s setting them up for a successful career in the place that made him happy. That was how he was raised and he turned out alright…. If you consider having your children call you ‘sir’ and calling them maggots while they run an obstacle course meant for people your age ‘alright’.

Tank Grunt
Personality: Capricorn, 6/4/10/0/5, Sports Hobby
Aspiration: Popularity
LTW: Have 20 Best Friends
Tank grew up without attention from his father or any indication of pride, because Buzz wouldn’t know an emotion if it was chewing on his ear. So he’s a little… obsessive about winning Buzz’s approval and therefore becoming ‘worthy’. That’s the only metric he’s ever been given to judge his worth by. This lack of reassurance in his early years has also made him defensive to the point of being on the offensive with other people. As much as Tank longs for friends he’ll never make any whilst all he knows is violence. Maybe before he tries to make friends he should try to treat his brothers better, which in itself would involve unlearning violence and the toxic brand of masculinity Buzz teaches.… Resolving his issues is going to take a while.

Ripp Grunt
Personality: Sagittarius, 1/8/1/7/8, Arts and Crafts Hobby
Aspiration: Romance
LTW: Woohoo 20 Different Sims
While Tank adapts to what Buzz expects, Ripp rebels all the harder. He’ll do anything in his power to avoid being like Buzz. He’s lacking softness in his life and behind the hard exterior of “psshhh whatever man” he puts up he really wants some gentleness and love without expectations. His friends are the closest thing he has to an oasis and probably the only people he lets see past his guarded defense and fear of emotional attachment. His hobby right now is his guitar, even though he can only play it when Buzz is at work or busy. He has vague dreams of getting out of Strangetown forever, maybe moving to a city. But that’s just a pipe dream really, and he’s not sure he could leave Johnny and Ophelia behind or convince them to leave.

Buck Grunt
Personality: Scorpio, 10/3/3/0/10, Science Hobby
Buck feels like he should be happy to be overlooked by Buzz’s stern eye but… it’s hard to feel like nobody in the house cares about you. Ripp tries, but he can’t always be there when Buck needs him. Ever since he followed Ripp to the Smith house one day he’s been finding his solace there with Jill and her perfect loving family that somehow have room in their hearts for as many strays as they find. Sometimes there are cookies, lots of cookies. Nobody else in his family seems to care about fashion or culture either, they embrace the retro aesthetic more than most people in town. Meanwhile Buck is happiest when he’s reading up on the latest trends out of Belladonna. He feels trapped, stifled even, by the limited view of life there is around here. Sand, military… that’s not all there is. When Buck sees the stars in Jill’s magazines he knows that for sure.

“He’s the most scientifically interesting thing on two legs! We’d be doing the title ‘mad scientist’ a disservice if we didn’t see what makes him tick!” Circe hissed moments before opening the door to the man who had somehow set all their instruments off from outside the building. She had a sickly sweet smile and the words ‘come in you poor thing’ on her lips. However, before she could speak Nervous disappeared and reappeared behind them with a quick ‘pop’.

“You’re too kind,” He said, somehow already snacking on a pack of cookies from Circe’s private stash.

Since then, life at the Beaker house has been… hard. Nervous is perfectly happy to live in their ‘lab cage’ but they can’t run tests on a man who can seemingly alter reality at will. At every turn Nervous thwarts either their attempts to study him or their attempts to escape him. When asked why he even came here if he knew of their evil intentions, Nervous only replies with the strangely ominous “My father told me to”. Those who would strive beyond their reach and attempt to take the secrets of higher powers for themselves must be punished. If the Beakers want to learn about The Elder Ones, they can have a first-hand experience.

Nervous Subject
Personality: Aquarius, 0/0/10/0/0, Sports Hobby (Changed to Nature)
Aspiration: Family
LTW: Reach Golden Anniversary
Degree: Reaping (okay not really but Loki looks unnerved when he says it)

“Why art thou so small?” Several mouths with one presence asked around many mouthfuls of many burgers. The beast was thin, impossibly thin, almost skeletal. But not in the same way Death was, oh no. Death was very obviously a skeleton, he was almost comforting. This creature’s skeleton seemed desperate to burst from it’s own skin.

“‘S not small,” Death, who did not have even one mouth and resented Famine’s many, muttered. He waved his hand and an outrageously plush cushion was suddenly propping up the slouching toddler. “Just human. Half-human I mean.” Famine’s many mouths, hundreds of mouths, an impossible amount of mouths, continued to chew thoughtfully. Somebody else walked up to Death’s throne, or rather scuttled up. Chew. Skitter. Chew. Skitter. Chew.

“We have not been asked to gather in The Pit for many centuries. Existence is too close to the physicality of the mortal realm here. Where is thy true form? Assume it so we may return to the boundless void,” Pestilence hissed, bending down to speak to the child. Death rolled his non-existent eyes. This was what he got for being the only one constantly meeting with mortals. He was the only one who didn’t talk with a stick up his non-existent ass, the only one with quaint nicknames for the others like ‘famine’. “We are all thy confidantes here. Thou may share.”

“Stop that,” Death complained, kicking Pestilence and his mouthful of plague away. Ugh. Siblings.

Nervous is a child of two worlds and regarded as something of a recklessly conceived abomination in both. Apart from a brief time after his birth that he can no longer recall, Nervous had spent all his life in his father’s realm before arriving at the Beaker house. He’s not sure exactly why he’s here, other than to teach the Beakers a lesson about meddling with The Higher Realms that he’s pretty certain they’ve learnt by now. But maybe he does get a little joy out of viewing this as ‘punishment’ for the tortured souls of former test subjects he can feel in this place. Regardless of the reason for it, harassing the Beakers is a part-time day job. Nervous is far more concerned with the recent odd, unpredictable behaviour of his powers, the lack of contact from his father since arriving in this place, and the urge to visit Pascal Curious that sits in the stomach of this weak human form (expected) and calls to his essence, his soul, his true form (highly unexpected). Oh, and his wrestling match with the moral question: Can he truly be ‘good’ or is he naturally predisposed to be evil? Can’t forget that one.

Circe Beaker
Personality: Capricorn, 10/5/10/0/0, Science Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Fortune / Knowledge
LTW: Earn 100,000
Degree: Biology
Circe only wanted an itsy bitsy little bit of torture, a few measly little sobs of anguish, maybe one teeny tiny piece of someone begging for the escape of death. Oh, and, uh, the scientific thrill of making a major discovery about the forces of life and death of course! Yes the ethical, wholesome, thrill of scientific discovery. Now someone- no, something is living in her house and it is angry at her. All attempts to experiment on Nervous fail in some ridiculous fashion that wouldn’t be out of place in a cartoon. Look, Mr Reaper, she’s sorry okay. You kill enough people in the name of science and you start to wonder where they’re going. And maybe that kind of research doesn’t get a lot of funding so you have to resort to experimenting on anyone and anything to find that connection to a higher plane of knowledge. A place where your body cannot limit you. Not even the terror Nervous can instill is enough to douse the fire of her curiosity, if anything it only makes her angry and more determined.

Loki Beaker
Personality: Capricorn, 10/7/8/0/0, Science Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Knowledge / Fortune
LTW: Become Mad Scientist
Degree: Physics
Loki loves science, Circe, and robots. In that order. Fortunately Circe loves science, Loki, and robots in that same order. They had a good life. They were regarded as rising stars in their respective careers. Mad Scientist Weekly had named them This Decade’s Couple To Watch Out For (Seriously, Lock Your Doors). Then that…. thing arrived. Sometimes Nervous walks across a room and Loki swears he hears… squelching. Like a fish flopping it’s way over stone tiles. Sometimes he can’t look at Nervous, literally, his eyes refuse to co-operate. Sometimes all he can do is look at Nervous, some force refusing to let him look away from a sight too gruesome and inhuman to describe or properly recall when he is finally allowed to recoil. Loki refuses to be conquered and he fears nothing, really! He just… thinks it would be good for everyone if he came home from work one day and Nervous happened to not be there anymore. He’s tried to turn his attention to robotics, in the hope Nervous will leave him alone if he stops meddling with death and focuses on making killbots instead. Normal mad scientist stuff, none of this borderline satanist mess.

Fat chance.

Though often credited as ‘town founders’ every generation of the Curious family has insisted this is an over-simplification of Strangetown’s origins. As the last of the original research team still living in Strangetown the Curious family ‘inherited’ the disused research lab and Glarn’s sons have converted it into a home/lab-away-from-lab. Though the Curious family has had the most experience with aliens, the brothers still know there’s more to learn about Sixam and are determined to know all they can and share it with the world. They often clash with the military base who are intent on containing ‘alien influence’ over the population. Sometimes, though it is mostly just Vidcund, they also clash with the Beakers who believe you should conduct science in your secret basement laboratory and keep it away from other sims like a civilized person.

Lazlo Curious
Personality: Saggitarius, 0/9/2/9/5, Nature Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Knowledge / Pleasure
LTW: Become Game Designer
Degree: “Phrenology” (Shhhh)
Lazlo is pretty chill, especially next to his brothers and their excessive passion for science. He never felt like he fitted in with them growing up, but he didn’t fit in with anyone else either. So it was either keep up with them or have nobody to talk to. It’s not that he isn’t as smart as them, it’s just he’d rather apply his intelligence elsewhere than petty squabbles with Loki Beaker over publishing in certain journals. With all the changes around - Johnny growing up, Pascal becoming a father - Lazlo is starting to re-evaluate his life. It’s just a question of whether he has the courage to become his own sim.

Vidcund Curious
Personality: Scorpio, 10/1/7/4/3, Science Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Knowledge / Romance
LTW: Become Education Minister
Degree: Biology
Vidcund was voted Most Likely To Die Alone in his final yearbook. Circe was yearbook editor. Decide for yourself if those two things were related, either way the vote has turned out to be correct thus far. Despite Vidcund’s best efforts he just can’t find anyone. When he’s not overthinking his non existent love life, he’s working in the lab. It’s his sole hobby, interest, love, etc. Currently his experiments revolve around trying to recreate the foliage resistance to desert environments that PT9 has seemingly given his plants. All attempts at reverse-engineering the chemical PT9 used on his lawn have failed, but experiments with said chemical have given Vidcund a pleasant greenhouse. He’s starting to lose interest in this and gain interest in alien abductions. Loki can’t be better than him if he’s got an actual alien baby.

Pascal Curious
Personality: Scorpio, 10/5/5/0/5, Science Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Knowledge / Family
LTW: Max Out Seven Skills
Degree: Physics
Pascal has had his thoughts unexpectedly diverted from science. Between unexpected fatherhood, being the oldest and most responsible brother in the house, and the mysterious ‘Nervous’ he’s had things beyond books to focus on for the first time in… maybe ever. Vidcund’s preoccupation with ‘studying’ the child is making him angrier than he thought it would, and he’s become slightly paranoid about General Grunt finding out. But he remains certain there’s a rational explanation for everything and a logical response to any situation. Life has been confusing and stressful of late but he knows the answers to his problems exist somewhere.

Ajay Loner
Personality: Gemini, 6/7/4/3/5, Music and Dance Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Fortune / Popularity
LTW: Become City Planner
Degree: Economics
Some people think it’s strange that an architect in the making would move out to the middle of the desert where he has no family, friends, or even acquaintances. But where some people see an empty desert, some people see a strategic military location, or a scientific discovery, or… a blank canvas. Ajay has plans for Strangetown. With an actual scientific base and a few more community shops…. If he can just earn the credibility from smaller projects and get promoted up to City Planner he’ll be able to take control of building this ‘town’ into an actual town from the ground up. What a way to make his mark on the world! An entire town, designed by him and constructed on his say-so. The commute is difficult right now, but soon it will be worth it. Ajay doesn’t really believe in the supernatural rumours about Strangetown. (Other than aliens, but EVERYBODY knows aliens are real, it’s an open secret.) Hopefully the reality won’t scare him off.

(Ajay has turned out to be, surprisingly, vital to my Strangetown. I’ve self-imposed a rule of placing no more community lots, residential lots, or hood deco outside of the military base fence until he reaches the top of his career.)

The Curious name is famous in Strangetown and stretches all the way back to the original research team. But Chloe and Lola are more than a little estranged from it. They only ever ‘team up’ with the rest of their family because they happen to agree that General Buzz is a General Asshole and aliens are cool. Abandoned by Glarn and his picture perfect new family, and ignored by PT9 even after their earth father rejected them, the twins would rather be associated with Glabe than their ‘biological’ family. They’re trying to ‘reconnect’ with their half-siblings but relations with PT9 and their half sister / step-mother are, if you can’t already tell from that fucked up dual-title awarded to Jenny, strained. It just feels like everyone they know except Glabe replaced them with something more normal, even PT9′s Better Homes And Gardens house. So, almost to spite the world, neither of them are too keen on forming a ‘nuclear family’. They just need each other.

Lola Curious
Personality: Sagittarius, 3/8/4/3/7, Music and Dance Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Fortune / Popularity
LTW: Own 5 Top Level Businesses
Degree: Economics
Lola is very responsible, with a head for numbers and a wish to go from rent-payer to landowner. She can be too serious sometimes but that’s only because she’s used to following Chloe’s trail of destruction and parties and keeping her somewhat safe. In fact that’s been her role since their first day of school. She’s almost not sure what else to do with herself beside ‘parent’ her little sister. One day she’d like to have a business empire, but she can’t imagine herself and Chloe getting any peace living outside of Strangetown and there’s no opportunity to develop land here. That’s why she’s teamed up with Ajay to ‘reinvent’ Strangetown. She wishes people would appreciate what she does to protect them from themselves, instead of complaining at her that all she ever talks about is risk factors and numbers.

Chloe Curious
Personality: Cancer sign, 3/8/3/8/3, Nature Hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Romance / Fortune (Chloe has BIG interest in money)
LTW: Have 20 Simultaneous Lovers
Degree: Philosophy
Oh people think Chloe’s weird, huh? They wanna laugh at her and ask her personal questions about her father’s ass? Well fine then! She’ll fuckin’ show ‘em weird. She’ll be so damn weird people will be afraid to speak to her! Try and fuckin’ laugh at her when she’s partying it up and you, a loser, are stuck at home being a ‘normal human’ with a 9-5 job and a mortgage. Aside from daydreaming about proving her enemies wrong by taking the dance sphere on till she hurls, Chloe daydreams about living in a huge mansion with a pool to lounge beside. Then she’ll never worry about money ever again, unlike now where she spends most of her time worrying about whether she can afford another drink. She’s perfectly alright with working in Lola’s business schemes or taking small-time jobs if that’s what it takes to get there with her sister one day. Lola’s the only one who understands and therefore the only one who gets to boss her around, even if she can be a little bit too serious.

Kristen, like a lot of people, can’t remember how she ended up in Strangetown in the first place. Erin remembers exactly how she ended up here, and the long process of growing up in the desert with an overbearing brother and science-obsessed parents. They both want out of this town as soon as possible and that made them perfect roommates… which very quickly blossomed into something more. Though they may not be here long enough to influence the outcome, in the town’s cold war they’re firmly on the side of science and freedom of information. Conspiracies are part of what makes this town so hard to live in

Kristen Loste
Personality: Taurus, 3/5/7/2/8, Sports Hobby
Aspiration/Secondary: Fortune / Popularity
LTW: Become Hall of Famer
Degree: Drama
Kristen seems like she has tunnel vision to people who don’t know her because she’s a tad obsessed with her sports career. That’s just drive and ambition, namely an ambition to leave this town and the military base’s ‘team’ and move closer to an actual league. (Seriously. Working for the secretive base is making her feel like a snitch.) Beneath the muscles she’s very kind and will always make time for a friend who needs her. (Though her advice can be a little blunt.) She’s been more and more distracted lately though. As goofy as Erin can seem, sometimes a little silliness is needed to strike a balance between work and play. Though her memory is a little fuzzy about her arrival in town, or how she ended up dressing like a greaser in a desert, for some reason it doesn’t occur to her to question this…

Erin Beaker

Okay, so maybe Erin can’t bend spoons with her mind yet but she’s confident her new job will get her there someday. Friendly and playful, Erin finds it easy to make new friends and has never enjoyed living in a small town where people associate the name Beaker with Loki. She reluctantly keeps in contact with him. There’s not many animals around these parts either, and Erin loves animals. For now she makes do with a womrat in this tiny apartment and instead of taking in strays she took in a stranger new to town.

Strangetown
Population: 10 Families

"Strangetown is located in [REDACTED], has a population of [REDACTED], serves as hometown to [REDACTED] and Project [REDACTED] and has been the site of several [ENTIRE PARAGRAPH REDACTED]. It is highly secretive."

Strangetown did not begin as a conscious attempt to found a new town. It began as a small city of tents surrounding some peculiar rock formations along the Road To Nowhere (A highway which led to La Fiesta Tech and nothing else. Understandably, the university has tried to have this name changed.). A group of La Fiesta Tech seniors had moved out to study the rocks as part of their final project. La Fiesta Tech’s history is not something for us to delve into here, but the university had developed a reputation for the more ‘out there’ sciences. This reputation had attracted several sims seeking to push the boundaries of science. Not in a ‘can we invent new technology to better simkind’ way, in a ‘how sick would it be if I made a robot with chainsaws for hands, legs, and ears’ way. Conspiracy theorists claim these ‘mad scientists’ unleashed something, discovered something, or caught something’s eye. What we do know for certain is that sometime in the mid 50s, during the study of the rock formation, three scientists went missing and when found three days later claimed to have been abducted by aliens.

There were more mysteries in the desert than the rock formations and the ‘abductions’. Instruments registered phantom, impossible earthquakes. Bones of animals not native to SimNation were dug up (Including, bizarrely, a polar bear.) and more than one scientist claimed to see unexplained lights in the sky that so fascinated them they wandered off into the desert. It became clear this research project would take more than a month long expedition. So the now graduates of La Fiesta Tech hired some builders and moved into Research Post S, affiliated with scientific research of La Fiesta Tech.

The research post had barely finished construction when the military moved in right next door along Road To Nowhere and set up a new base to carry out their own investigation into the desert and the strange lights in the sky. Primarily R&D focused the base would eventually come to be the heart of SimNation’s space program. An adjacent airfield was set up, officially it was to allow faster connection to this vital base, unofficially it was hoped that having regular air traffic would increase the chance of observing a plane’s ‘disappearance’ or ‘abduction’. As military personnel and scientists moved out into the middle of nowhere on a long-term basis, they wanted to bring their families with them. An alliance between Research Post S and ‘Sierra Base’ was established, mostly because the scientists wanted more reliable clean water and their own homes. Sierra Base officially took over as the ‘parent’ of Research Post S from La Fiesta Tech. For a while, the families at Sierra Base considered their community as a part of La Fiesta Tech's campus, however it soon outgrew this. It was not quite nothing, not quite a town. Eventually, the common description of a "Strange kind of town" mutated into Strangetown. Even the Military Base changed it's name to The Strangetown Military Base.

However, Strangetown had barely been christened when it began to fade. The strange occurrences in Strangetown declined as the population grew that may be true. It was as if the more people came looking for its secrets the harder the desert held on to them. People moved on to more successful sites of interest, abandoning dig sites as they left them. Only the most reclusive and single-minded scientists remained. At the same time funding to SimNation’s space program was cut dramatically, and so the personnel at the military base were reduced by a great number. Strangetown lived for one moment in glory and then became something of a ghost town in the SimNation desert.

When you leave the most secretive and reclusive people behind in a ghost town with a military base that has to be tight-lipped around outsiders because of its secret research, you create an extremely insular society. Fashion and architecture in Strangetown has remained mostly unchanged for over two generations now, mostly thanks to a lack of construction or outside contact. A blend of mid-century modern in the houses that were built by (and are still supplied with amenities by) the military base, and retro-futurism (futurism at the time) in the old scientists’ houses. Some believe this oddity is a symptom of the supernatural influence over the town, and that the residents are trapped in some sort of time loop. This is, of course, absolute nonsense… PT-9 only made his house look Like That because he actually believes sims all have houses like that. Earth tv broadcasts reach Sixam with a delay of years.

Since the larger community left, Strangetown has returned to its former status as a goldmine of paranormal research. Alien sightings are common, Bella Goth sightings even more so, and all sorts of strange happenings across the desert have returned. (Crashing space ships, abductions, returning to the same landmark no matter what direction you walk/drive in). Unfortunately, with its previous history of providing no answers these ‘new findings’ by the Curious brothers, the Beakers, and others have been met with ridicule and eye-rolls. (Though proof of aliens is now undeniable and accepted.)

Today, Strangetown attracts the occasional odd citizen who just can’t fit in anywhere else (Olive Specter, who moved here in her youth, and the Beakers about 15 years ago for example.) It is caught in a struggle between the alien and scientific communities and the military base that wants to suppress knowledge and keep it for itself. Every day General Buzz moves closer to convincing someone to take his little ‘containment project’ seriously, while the Curious-Smith families come ever closer to understanding Sixam.

But what neither side knows is that a far more important and deadly conflict is going on behind the doors of the Beaker and Specter houses...

Things are… a little tense. Regan and Cornwall are dedicated to their careers and take pride in keeping commitments. Kent is recently unemployed and has no plans to find a new job. But with their sister’s death still hitting so hard Regan and Kent have been inspired to make this work. They both want to at least try and smooth over their relationship that’s never been especially good. Unfortunately, Cornwall and Kent aren’t making that any easier with their constant fighting.

Regan Capp
Personality: Virgo, 8/3/6/3/5, Science hobby
Aspiration: Fortune
LTW: Earn 100,000
Regan is ‘the brains’ of her generation and wants to make her own fortune off of those ‘brains’ and hard work. She has always had a good relationship with all but one of her siblings. Cordelia was easy to get along with, and though Goneril resented her higher grades she always seemed to see the two of them as united spares. Kent… is very different from Regan. While she enjoys the payoff from hard work, Kent enjoys not having to do hard work. Letting Kent stay with her is an olive branch but will it actually create more resentment in the long term? She and Cornwall are almost still newlyweds and Regan’s brother is already lounging on their sofa every day. They’ve been incredibly lucky to find a ‘suitable match’ their families approve of and still find happiness in each other. Why jeopardize that with stress?

Cornwall Capp
Personality: Virgo, 8/4/7/2/4, Science hobby.
Aspiration: Fortune
LTW: Own 5 Top Level Businesses
Cornwall is a man sims view differently depending on who they are. Intense paranoia makes him overly agreeable and kind to friends he wants to keep, and overly aggressive and defensive with those he doesn’t know or doesn’t like. A ‘yes man’ at a party and a bully with strangers. He grew up with Albany and has always been aware of his friend’s ambitions to leave behind a large family with a powerful name and legacy. He’s perfectly happy to support Albany in his ambitions, because his own ambition is to make his own money. Maybe that’s why he and Regan clicked so easily when they meet at Le Tour. Sure their house is a little more modest than Albany and Goneril’s but in time they’ll earn a bigger and better one by themselves. Cornwall dislikes Kent for what he perceives as his lack of ambition. He resents that while he’s had to put all his energy into being a perfect Capp to fit in as a spouse (though nobody asked him to…), Kent is a terrible Capp yet the family doesn’t punish him for it.

Kent Capp
Personality: Aquarius, 6/6/2/4/7, Cuisine hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Knowledge / Pleasure
LTW: Max Out 7 Skills
Kent is definitely motivated! He’s just motivated to improve his knowledge of the world, not his job. He always got on better with Goneril than Regan since they were the two odd ones out in the family. However, Goneril has four kids and no spare rooms. Kent has always felt distant from his family, hence he takes no mind of the feud and has little idea of the current inheritance struggle. If it seems he isn’t ‘punished’ for being a bad Capp it’s only because he accepted a long time ago he would never mean much to his family. They can’t hurt him if he doesn’t care. He does resent Cornwall judging him though, and can’t help but roll his eyes at his brother-in-law’s overcompensation. Really, accusing everyone you meet of being a Monty spy is just overkill.

simhealing: (Default)

f you think Goneril’s branch family seem the perfect family unit, then they’ve served their purpose to the Capp lineage well. The elder Capps were thrilled to finally find a use for Goneril as a face of Capp wealth and traditional values, and Albany… well. Let’s just say Albany Capp has pulled the ultimate bluff. On the surface, Goneril is a working mother living in the luxury of the Capp fortune, Albany is a doting father, they have three wonderful children and one teenager going through a short rebellious phase. The reality is very different. Goneril is restless and screaming behind a painted on smile, scared to look at the camera in pictures lest the suffering show in her eyes. Albany is scheming against his wife’s family, Miranda is cracking under the pressure of knowing too many Capp secrets, Hal and Desdemona are unwitting pawns in the family’s inheritance struggle, and little Ariel is passed between her parents like a heavy bag of shopping.

Goneril Capp
Personality: Capricorn, 8/4/3/5/5, Cuisine Hobby
Aspiration/Secondary: Fortune/Pleasure
LTW: Own Five Top Level Businesses
Degree: Economics
Goneril, though you wouldn’t think it now because she’d never allow her image to be damaged, was the black sheep of the Capp family growing up. Cordelia was the heir to the manor and the business, as well as the attack dog when she needed to be. Regan was the brains. Kent made peace with being unneeded and overlooked from a young age. Goneril… She’s tried to get out of this family at least twice, not counting her five second bolt when Albany proposed. Never enough. Too messy, good grades but not AMAZING grades, feelings for girls that her family never condemned but certainly didn’t encourage. The Capps were too happy to marry her off and, putting all the lessons Contessa gave her and all the lectures Consort gave her into practice, Goneril has become something of a Capp window display at the cost of her own energy and personality. Still, all this time spent crafting her own appearance has made her possibly the most formidable of the surviving Capp siblings. Though she doesn’t know the full extent of Albany’s scheme, she’s as armed to the teeth as any Capp for a battle of wits. After all, the only purpose in life is to serve the family… right?

Albany Capp
Personality: Aries, 9/8/6/1/1, Science Hobby
Aspiration/Secondary: Family/Fortune
LTW: Graduate 3 Children From College
Degree: Mathematics
Albany loves his family! Or, to be precise, he loves their family name. He loves the status his children afford him as a Capp relative. He loves the power in the family name. Everybody thinks he’s a doting father who can’t get enough children. What he really wants are back-ups for his plan, a stronger tie to the Capp blood, more status, always more chances to leave a dynasty behind him. The Capp heiress is fraternizing with a Monty (his telescope isn’t just for the stars, and he doesn’t stay at home just for one toddler) her sister has no interest in the family, and her brother… well he’s not set to inherit anyway, but even if Consort dares to go against the ancient Capp legacy Albany has a few ideas. There’s an opportunity in the Capp’s inheritance squabble and together with his old friend Cornwall he intends to take advantage. It’s just ensuring his children, HIS family, get the best in life.

Miranda Capp
Personality: Cancer, 6/5/3/3/8, Science Hobby
Aspiration: Romance
LTW: Have 20 Simultaneous Lovers
Miranda’s not mean, she’s cynical. Why is she cynical? Because she knows exactly what her father is up to and she doesn’t care for it. Mom just doesn’t understand, she’s just another Capp and Miranda often wonders how they’re related. (She’d be surprised at their similarities if she saw Goneril’s teen years.) Still, she’s nice to her siblings and cousins, and people who aren’t involved with Veronaville, and even Montys though Mercutio is a little too uptight about keeping the feud steady for her liking. Don’t let appearances fool you, she wouldn’t hurt a fly and people who judge her by appearance are exactly the kind of people she wants to piss off.

Hal Capp
Personality: Aries, 4/8/5/3/5, Music Hobby
Hal’s really confused about his life. Mom says that because he’s a boy in a Capp branch family he has the advantage of almost no expectations, but his parents still pile expectations on! He’s supposed to go to private school, he’s supposed to get good grades, he’s supposed to appear refined. Dad even talks to him like he’s a Capp heir sometimes. So if Hal’s a little snappy, it’s only because he’s not sure what everybody wants from him. Is he supposed to forge his own path or be a Capp?
Desdemona Capp
Personality: Taurus, 7/5/4/5/4, Science Hobby
Desdemona is easily missed in the chaos of the house, but that’s okay with her! She’s just as happy learning about the world around her as she is while playing. She kind of hopes the family will continue to overlook her so she can continue studying the plants in the family garden. Being a Capp sounds like so much work, they never learn new things! They just stick to the same old things and never look for new evidence or inventive approaches.

Ariel Capp
Personality: Sagittarius, 2/5/7/6/5, Nature Hobby
Ariel is a toddler, and spends most of her days in the garden with Albany as he tries to keep the leaves in order. A job which would be a lot easier if she’d stop playing in them.

The Summerdreams have lived in Veronaville since before anybody can remember. The townsfolk recall a long chain of women who all looked exactly like Titania, and now Titania herself. Clearly the latest in a line of women with strong genes and not an immortal fairy re-inventing herself every few years or so and using her magic to create the illusion of an aging family. They are lovers of the stage who put on regular plays in their purpose-built garden theater; it’s one of the few sources of entertainment in Veronaville. Though Titania has been trying to use her magic to ease the mood in Veronaville and protect the youth, the return of Oberon to her domain as well as adopting two fairly human children has stretched her in many directions.

Titania Summerdream
Personality: Sagittarius, 3/6/2/7/7, Arts & Crafts Hobby
Aspiration/Secondary: Family/Romance
LTW: Reach Golden Anniversary
Degree: All
Titania lived here before even the forest had conquered the landscape and she will live here long after the the next sim families change the land again. Though she has occasionally wandered - once to Belladonna Cove to live among the witches, once to Magic Town, and once to assist a clan of fairies to establish themselves in Moonlight Falls. (Or at least, she lived in those spaces that now have these new names) Veronaville is her heart though and if she spends too long away from it the markings on her cheeks begin to fade. The arrogance of the Montys and Capps to assume this town belongs to them when she feels it’s very energy almost makes her laugh. Naturally pre-disposed towards kindness and love, Titania acts as the neutral diplomat in Veronaville’s feud.
Oberon Summerdream
Personality: Sagittarius, 4/7/1/6/7, Film and Literature Hobby (changed)
Aspiration/Secondary: Knowledge/Pleasure
LTW: Become Hand of Poseidon
Degree: Numerous
Oberon has only recently returned from his wandering adventures: seeing sights from around the globe, playing tricks on as many sims as possible, and spreading magic as he went. Though restlessness is a chronic fairy trait and he and Titania have always had a very relaxed relationship, wandering off to experience another place whenever they feel like it, Oberon’s had more than his fill of wandering. The only reason it took so long is that he’s not very active, preferring to stay in one place for long periods of time before moving on again. Now he’s trying to fit into the changed shape of the household and relate to Bottom and Puck, while also trying to understand what went wrong in Veronaville while he was away. He’s doing what he can to help Titania protect the families from themselves. It’s a bumpy road, but at least editing videos keeps him happy.

Puck Summerdream
Personality: Taurus, 7/2/6/2/8, Tinkering Hobby
Aspiration: Popularity
LTW: Become Media Magnate
Puck always feels like he doesn’t belong here. No, really, he doesn’t. He’s only been affected with the essence of fairy magic because Titania has adopted him and welcomed him into her domain, in reality he’s very mortal and very serious about life in contrast to his family. Once he’s grown up he fully intends to return to mortal life. He’s more concerned with mortal problems and mortal people than any of the fairy magic, he wants to invent and help sims live better lives… with Hermia. Another reason he prefers the mortal life, he doesn’t want to watch her or his friends die. He hasn’t told Titania any of this of course, because he doesn’t know how to tell his mother she’ll see him age and die. The quiet retreat from other sims is a good thing though, and he hopes to keep the spirit of the Summerdream house in his own future home one day.

Bottom Summerdream
Personality: Leo, 3/6/7/4/5, Music & Dance Hobby
Bottom is mischievous. Perhaps that would be a problem for another child but as a fairy it means she’s excelling! Unlike Puck she feels much more suited to Titania’s domain than the life of a normal sim. The music accompanying the Summerdream plays is usually provided by Bottom who enjoys both the piano and the violin. She’d also play bass if Titania would let her have one. Growing up surrounded by nature and the message to just have fun, the feud and all other concerns feel very far away for Bottom.

The Capps are the only family in Sim State that can give the Goths or the Landgraabs a run for their money in experience with being a legacy. They founded The Veronaville School many generations ago which stands today as the most famous private school in Sim State, with a waiting list as long as Capp Manor’s grand entrance. The Capp name is involved in every imaginable business venture, from Belladonna Cove’s waterfront development to electronic stores in Bluewater Village. So naturally Juliette Capp and her siblings are set to inherit more money than they’ll ever need. Lately though they’ve been distracted by their feud with the Montys and an internal power struggle resulting from the early death of Cordelia Capp - heiress to the fortune. Their economic domination of Sim State business seems to be little more than side entertainment.

Consort Capp
Personality: Scorpio, 9/4/6/4/2, Science hobby
Aspiration / Secondary: Fortune/Knowledge (I want those skill point wants!)
LTW: Earn 100,000
Degree: Economics
After Cordelia and Caliban died, Consort took Juliette and her siblings into Capp Manor as his wards (Note the word ‘wards’, not ‘orphaned grandchildren’.) before the news had even broken in the morning paper. Consort appears the quintessential Capp. You’d be forgiven for forgetting he actually married into this family, and for not noticing that he’s more than a little of a golddigger obsessed with getting more money than he’ll ever need. Not many people even think to question why an outsider is now the de-facto head of one of the most powerful families in the county. What a head he is too. Consort overcompensates for his outsider status and keeps such tight control of the family he almost strangles them in it. Consort is the main driving force behind the Capp side of the feud, and he thinks he’s taught his grandchildren to share his views on Montys… among other things.

Tybalt Capp
Personality: Gemini, 5/8/6/4/2, Music Hobby
Aspiration: Popularity
LTW: Become The Law
You’d be hard pressed to find a person who won’t, at least, describe Tybalt as ‘abrasive’ if not ‘a real dick’. But it wasn’t always so. Sure he’s always been grumpy but when his parents were still alive he at least seemed to take some joy in life. He’s the only one of his siblings with enough memories of them to feel their absence daily - Hermia and Juliette were too young to remember them perfectly. Since their deaths he’s refused to trust a single Monty, and become over-protective of his sisters. But even if he thinks he has good intentions, he’s still driving away his own potential happiness as well as his sisters. Really, it’s not healthy to be angry with a boy because he dares to be fun to talk to and handsome. And there’s a point where ‘protecting your sisters and your own heart’ crosses into ‘interfering and being a douche’.

Juliette Capp
Personality: Cancer, 4/7/3/7/4, Games Hobby
Aspiration: Family
LTW: Graduate 3 Children From College
Juliette seems like a Sim Nation Sweetheart: kind, top of her class, good at sports, far too sweet for her family’s antics. But don’t fall for the soft red hair and gentle blush, she’s not just Consort’s favourite grandchild because she’s adorable. She’s the craftiest and most tactical of her siblings, well suited to being the heir of a business empire. However she is genuinely goodhearted and playful, you can always have fun with Juliette. As long as you don’t plan to screw her over or get in her way you won’t bring out her angry side, and you have nothing to worry about. Right now her number one concern is Romeo Monty, who she’s very much in love with, and devising a plan to bring this feud to an end without upsetting the family she loves. She and Tybalt might clash over the feud, but they still matter to each other. So far only Hermia seems willing to put her happiness ahead of the feud, but with the right business proposal any Capp can be swayed.

Hermia Capp
Personality: Virgo, 6/3/7/4/5, Arts and Crafts Hobby
Aspiration: Family (lmao will change in college)
LTW: Reach Golden Anniversary
Hermia is quiet, a seemingly odd quality in a Capp but there’s actually one in every generation. (Last time it was Regan.) If Tybalt is their generation’s attack dog, Juliette is their leader, and Miranda is their rebel, then Hermia is their brains. However this does mean she’s reached the logical conclusion that though she does love her siblings, she’ll be happiest distancing herself from the… Capp brand so to speak. That’s why she’s aligned herself with the Summerdreams. A family of creative souls with a supernatural mystery surrounding them, totally neutral in the feud? Sign her up! Right now though she IS living with her family, and spends most of her time secretly coordinating with Mercutio Monty to do damage control / prevent their families starting anything stupid. She just wants her siblings to be happy, but without an end to the feud that seems unlikely.

simhealing: (Default)
The Monty family are not an ancient legacy with their name scattered through Sim Nation’s history. Patrizio and Isabella Monty made their fortune themselves from llama ranching, their restaurant, and other activities on the side that you can’t tie them to through anything but circumstantial evidence. For the Montys family comes first, hence everyone takes the feud so seriously and moved back into the ranch to protect each other. On the one hand this means no Monty ever has to stand alone, and they always have someone to help them. On the other hand, this means the pressure to put the family’s wellbeing and pride before your own interests in immense. Eventually they’ll have to choose between those two conflicting features of being a close family.

“I don’t want to have to look at his land anymore!” cried Patrizio Monty, jabbing a finger at Consort Capp.

“I don’t want to have to look at HIS land anymore!” Consort Capp thundered, making a movement to throw a third glass of water at him.

“FINE!” yelled the exasperated judge who had been dealing with this for six hours.

Far from Belladonna Cove and Downtown’s politics, far from Pleasantview’s suburban nightmare, closer perhaps to the bizarre road of Strangetown than any other town in Sim State, a town not quite as rural as Riverblossom Hills but not quite as suburban as Pleasantview has spiraled out of control. The Capps and the Montys, both equally involved in crime and legitimate business alike, have been feuding for so long that nobody can truly remember how it was started - nobody except for Patrizio Monty, Consort Capp, and Contessa Capp’s urn anyway. Every citizen of the town has been told a different story about the feud’s origins. One thing they can all agree on though, the feud has cost at least five lives and has moved from a spat to a bloody war, bringing out only the worst in each family. The split has transformed from a metaphorical one into a physical one, with both families drawing the line in the map along the river and grabbing up land just to stop the other family owning it. The ugly wall and the extortionate housing make it almost impossible for new families to move into the town. Aside from a few stragglers renting from Consort Capp, the Summerdreams, and the boarding students at Veronaville Private School, Veronaville has essentially become the playground for their feud. Now, with the younger generation rebelling against the feud, Veronaville faces another bloody crisis.

The two sides refuse to even shop together, and have developed very differently because of this. With kids from all over Sim State bussed in to or boarding at Veronaville Private School, founded by Cleopatra Capp and subsequently built up as the oldest prestigious school in Sim State, a strong case was made to build them a shopping district. And so, the Capp business district sprung up. As a local hub for Capp Corp., which can be found in every city in Sim State, it makes it easy for the Capps to run their empire and gives them a space to run their somewhat less legal operations. Capps have high standards, and you can tell that just by looking at the emotional damage in their children. The only thing standing in their way of ‘upgrading’ all of Veronaville is the Monty clan hanging onto their land. The Monty school and business district is, when compared to the Capp opulence, somewhat modest. Known for it’s delicious local food, llama wool, and unwelcoming atmosphere, it’s a sparsely inhabited side of town. The Montys cling to their rural roots, and while that may seem like a good thing it actually means the only housing options in town are those the Capps rent out at extortionate rates.

Since the Veronaville youth are kept apart so strictly, with the Montys refusing to even apply to private school despite being able to afford it, nobody can quite understand how Romeo and Juliette found each other. Or why Tybalt and Mercutio keep managing to get into fights. One thing is for sure though, the town is on the brink of either alienating an entire generation and turning into a ghost town, or turning into a literal ghost town in a senseless bloodbath between two families built on pride who don’t care how they keep their status.
